Sorry! No President's Corner for December! Have a Happy New Year! Dan Alpert
Well, it’s official: I will by the club president for 2006! I am looking forward to working with the new officers as well as being more involved with club events this coming year. I will have my project (something that took a LOT of my time in 2005) done sometime this spring. Shows will be heavy on my list of things in ’06. And speaking of shows, we are in the works for moving our annual show to scenic Bradley Park in Puyallup. We are hoping that this is something we can call our permanent home. I am optimistic that it will work out as it would be a great venue. And with having it away from the South Hill Mall parking lot, we will have a lot more flexibility in some of the things we can (like vendors.) The date is set for Sunday, August 20th. We will be joining Mustangs West in doing a Fantasy Lights Cruise on Friday, December 16th and meeting at the Spanaway God Fathers for Pizza afterward. The admission is $13 per car. Discount tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Pierce County Parks at (253) 798-4177. There are still some details not set (times and meeting place,) so more details will be posted on the website when they become available. Everyone have a happy and safe holiday season! Remember there is no club meeting in December! See everyone at the holiday dinner December 2nd!! Dan Alpert
Hello all! There are things that are coming up in the next couple of months that I would like to see everyone that can attend--do. First of all, the November 15th club meeting is an important one. It is the last meeting of the year and it is also the meeting where we elect the 2006 officers!! Please attend if at all possible!! We are also looking for more nominations for all positions. The current nominations are: If you would like to run for a position, please let me know (fordmandan@yahoo.com) ALSO, please click HERE for a flyer to our Annual Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange taking place on Friday, December 2nd. $25 per person is due by the November 15th meeting so that we can coordinate with the caterer and Lakewold Gardens. This will be our BEST PARTY EVER!!! I would like to see everyone at the November meeting!! Dan Alpert
Hello! Summer is now “officially” behind us and most of the shows of the year have come and gone. I hope those that had opportunities to attend the many shows to choose from had good times. And those that didn’t (like me unfortunately,) get the opportunities next year. By the time you read this, several club members will have gone to the Columbia Crest car show near Paterson (on the Columbia River) which is regarded by some as the last show of the year. We just had our club picnic and we had a great time and the weather was perfect. I didn’t get an exact head count, but there was at least 40 of us (including the kids!) The kids had their games and the adults had the slow drags and the blind man obstacle course. Congratulations to Tom Neil for winning the slow drags (in one of the fastest cars—go figure) and to the Ankley’s for winning the obstacle course. Reminder! Money for our annual holiday party is due by November 15th (our November club meeting.) We are working on an October event and it would take place following our October 18th club meeting. Have a great Fall! Dan Alpert
Hello PCMC members and visitors! Another successful car show is now behind us! It was a fabulous day and I even got to enjoy some of it when I wasn’t working! We got a lot of nice compliments from attendees! Big thanks go to my brother, Tom Alpert, for chairing the show this year. He coordinated many of the details that go into making a car show run as smoothly as possible--even during MANY, unavoidable, outside distractions that would put stress on anyone NOT trying to also run a car show!! I would also like to thank all those that helped make everything possible. I would start listing names, but I don’t want to leave anyone out. I do want to give a special thanks to Nancy Freeman for being the show “mom.” She had a lot of behind the scenes work that normally goes unnoticed (but not unnoticed to me!) Those that went to the show got a sneak peak at my project. You could not mistake which one it was!! I finally got all of the really tough stuff done and now it is time for the easy and fun part of putting it all together. I still have a lot to do, but I can see that I will be attending a lot more of next year’s shows and events--something I have sacrificed during the past couple of years! See you at the club picnic on Sunday September 25th. Dan Alpert
Howdy! July is just about behind us, but not without good look back on it! I took time away from the project to make it to the Vintage Races, the Mustangs NW Pony Trails, and the MNW Mustang Roundup. All were a great time and those that made it to any/all of them were not at all disappointed. Doing the tour of the LeMay museum at the end of the Pony Trails was simply amazing. How someone could even have had the TIME to purchase all of these cars, let a lone afford them is just beyond me! This year’s MNW Mustang Roundup was spectacular as usual. Anytime there are nearly 70 Shelby’s alone says something about the stature of that show. Our club had a good showing of cars of 15, but we would have liked a few more. We had some good representation of awards going to Bob Batuik (1st,) Ron Graham (1st,) Gary Weaver (3rd,) and Pablo Duran (3rd.) I don’t think I missed anyone! A little update on my project: I will have the paint ordered about the time you read this and it will be painted before our next board meeting. I think I am pushing to have it drivable for our next club meeting, though it will be at our show as I stated previously. Hope to see you at the next meeting! Thank you to those that brought food donations. Sweet Willies sure appreciate it! Dan Alpert
Hello fellow Mustangers! Summer is here!! Are we busy yet?? The choice of shows and events can get a little overwhelming for some of us. (And for me at the moment, ALL shows and events are overwhelming!) By my next Presidents Corner, I should have (or very close to) a freshly painted ’68 Sonic Blue coupe. Shortly there after, it should be drivable. Then I won’t be able to go to enough shows and events!! ;-) Regardless, it will be on display at least by our August 21st show—if I have to haul it there!! For those that made it to the Vintage Races, it was a lot of fun--and so were the parade laps! The Great Race (July 8,) and the Mustang Roundup (14-17) are right around the corner (just to name a couple.) Make sure to check them out if you can! I will be taking time away from the “project” to attend both of them to some extent. I had originally called out June 29th for going out to Pacific Raceways to do a Test-N-Tune night, but I decided to hold off for now. I know I would like to get out there and if you ever have the opportunity to check it out, it is a blast! I hope everyone has a Happy Independence Day!! Dan Alpert
Hello! First of all, I would like to thank those of you that displayed your cars at the Lakewold Gardens event. I was not able to attend, but I understand it was great time and you avoided the rain clouds for the most part. I would also like to thank those of you that brought non-perishable food items to the May meeting. Sweet Willies will appreciate that! We will be collecting more next meeting, so bring what you can! Vice-Prez Tim Gywn is putting together a go-kart racing/potluck event. The day will be Saturday June 18th. Check the website for details (updates will be made, so check back often for the latest info) or call Tim at (253)752-4588. Details on the go-cart track can be found at this website: www.grandprixraceway.com. A little update on my personal Mustang project. As I have mentioned before, I am restoring/modding a ’68 coupe. Earlier this month I fired it up for the first time! Very therapeutic I must say. It’s kind of getting down to crunch time as I have to ‘git-r-done’ by August so I can have it out of my brother’s shop. If you were to look it now, you’ll wonder how in the heck I am going to be done by then. I wonder too! But, I am putting in long hours on it. When you have a thousand modifications, it takes much longer that you can imagine. However, I am mostly done with my mods and I can just about focus on getting the body done and ready to paint. I am planning to take some time away from the project to take my other Mustang down the track for a “Test N Tune” night at Pacific Raceways on Wednesday June 29th. This is kind of an ‘optional’ event and I am just seeing what kind of interest there is out there for this kind of thing. If anyone wants to join me, let me know! (253) 840-6153 and leave me a message! Gates open at 5pm, but it is best to get in line around 4:30 or so. If you have never done the! drag racing thing before, make sure to check out www.pacificraceways.com, click on “Drag Racing” and then click on “Drag Racing 101 Tutorial.” That’s all for now! See you at the June 21st club meeting!! Dan Alpert
Thanks for taking the time to check out what I have to say! We are at the quarter pole for the year. Enthusiasm continues to grow as evident by the turnout to our monthly meetings. We are starting to push for standing room only! I don’t have the exact numbers, but I sure feel like the participation at the meetings has about doubled over this time last year!! And as we grow, we become more and more of a diverse club. We have owners that love to go to shows to show off their Stang. Shows have been historically the major events participated in by our club. We do have a growing number of owners with performance oriented cars and would like to participate in performance oriented events. Pacific Raceways has “Test ‘N’ Tune” nights on most Wednesday and Friday nights through August. There are also “Open Lapping” days on several Fridays (though expensive--$150!!) Stay tuned! (No pun intended!) We are working on new and better ways of supporting our charity, Sweet Willies Family Support. Even though we are generous in our annual cash donations, we would like to do things or make collections throughout the year. After all, the needy still need support in the other 11 months! We are asking for a non-perishable food item to be brought to the monthly meetings. Not required, but very much appreciated. Thank you!! Coming up in May:
Semper Stang! (Always Mustang) Dan Alpert
Hello fellow Mustang enthusiasts, I want to start off by thanking Pete and Nancy Freeman for putting on a great Poker Run cruise on March 11th. We had 36 cars (our largest cruise ever!) participate from several clubs. The weather even cooperated! I also want to thank those that participated for being courteous and safe. I can’t stress enough how important it is to obey the traffic laws and “keeping the peace” with those that might not be as enthusiastic about our favorite pastime as we are. We want to convey a good image of our club(s) and it is imperative that we maintain this good image if we want to continue to have these kinds of events. Our April event is looking to be a split for the club on April 16th. Some will be going to the Port Angeles show and some will be cruising to Orting to view the Daffodil parade. There are a boat load of new events coming out of the woodwork! First off, we are looking for 8-12 ’73 and older Mustangs for a “mini” show at Lakewold Gardens on Saturday May 7th. If we don’t get that number—we have four commits at the moment—we will look into later models. In exchange, we will be getting a discount on a meeting room for our holiday party. As a club, we decided on Saturday December 3rd for the party. But after talking with the people there at the gardens, they asked us if we could have it on a weekday (they have their reasons.) Tentatively I am asking for Friday December 2nd, from 6-9PM (from what I understand, the gardens are lit up a night.) I will need to have this date set soon so I can coordinate with a caterer. Other new events coming up (details forthcoming):
Spring is here and things are really picking up! Be safe! Dan Alpert
Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit! February saw a good turn out for the monthly club meeting. We had around 25 members and visitors! I have no doubt that people are getting excited about the year as the calendar moves closer to spring. The winter time (aided obviously by the unseasonably warm weather) has brought more people than I remember this early in the year—and that is a very good sign. Mustangs West are recruiting new show judges for the West Coast Nationals to be held in Lacey August 12-14th. If you are interested in becoming an MCA show judge (MCA membership is required and has some benefits,) please contact me (fordmandan@yahoo.com or (253) 840-6153) and I will get you in touch with Wendy Minneweather, Head Judge Committee. There will be a judging seminar in Lacey on March 19th. Wendy will have more details. Our February event saw us going up to Woodinville where we toured the Château Ste. Michelle Winery and the Red Hook Brewery. Dubbed the “Sweetheart Cruise,” there was no need to have a sweetheart to make the run. In fact, four of the nine cars that made the cruise had an empty co-pilot seat! Thank you Tom and Dori for setting it up. Look for our March event on the web site or at the next club meeting. It is initially planned for March 19th, however this conflicts with the judging seminar. Stay tuned! want to start off by thanking Pete and Nancy Freeman for putting on a great Poker Run cruise on March 11th. We had 36 cars (our largest cruise ever!) participate from several clubs. Spring is here and things are really picking up! Be safe! Dan Alpert
Hello all and Happy New Year! As we round out the first month of winter, things have gone into semi-hibernation for most owners, especially for those with early generation Mustangs. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do things without our cars! This brings up a point that is emphasized on our updated home page (thank you Tom for the update!) Yes, the club is about the fun we have with our cars, but it boils down to getting together with other Mustang enthusiasts to share our excitement of them! I want to thank all of those that made if out for the Christmas lights cruise! We met at Engine House #9 where we got a bite to eat and collected toys to benefit our charity, Sweet Willie’s Family Support. Then we made our way to “Candy Cane Lane” near Fircrest and then cruised on down to Spanaway Park for the “Fantasy Lights”. We had around a dozen cars and yes, most were late models as was to be expected. Just another friendly reminder that your Stang is not required for participation! We are looking forward to a great 2005! Not losing sight that this is a Mustang club, we will be doing a few more Mustang or car related things. For example, I will be going out to a location in University Place to check out a dyno shop with some other Mustang owners. I know, a little late for making this a club event, but I will be reporting about my experience of the day there (this will be my first time doing the dyno thing) for those that have never done it before. We will be exploring some more new ideas to add to the existing things that we have done in the past. Stay tuned for our February event! Dan Alpert
