Renea Merwin's 2006 GT

& Tony Merwin's 1970 Coupe
website

As I started to do the write up on my pony I was reminded that we have TWO ponies and I need to include them both.

I came to be a pony lover late in life. I hadn’t even driven one until 2006, but as soon as I did I knew it was meant to be. It became a mission to find the exact one I wanted.  It had to be a 2006, it had to be a  V-8, it had to be a stick, it had to be Tungsten Grey, it had to have the interior upgrade….basically it HAD to have everything, and she does.  Unfortunately there wasn’t one in the area. Because the 07’s were coming out we couldn’t get a dealer to help us find her but I could custom order an 07. But, I knew she was out there somewhere, I could hear her calling for me. I finally found her at a dealer in Brookings Oregon.  I grinned all the way home after picking her up and she still makes me grin. Since then we have put 33,000 miles on her with most of those being cross country trips (she has lots of stories to tell).  People always think she is Tony’s because he is the one they see driving, but that is because he tells me I get to have her all to myself during the week he gets to have fun with her on the weekends.

Our second Pony is technically the first one. Tony has always loved cars and wanted a project car but with four kids who has time for that? When our last one graduated it was time to start looking. About two weeks before we got mine he found an ad on Craigslist for a 70 coupe that wasn’t a basket case for a ridiculous amount of $650. AND HE DIDN’T CALL. After some arm twisting he called and yes, it was still available. We drove to Edgewood, had no sooner gotten out of the car and the man was dropping the price to $600 and this was while he had the mustang running. I was handing over money before Tony even agreed to wanting her (he did I just have faster reflexes) as a deposit while we ran to the bank to get the rest of the money. We came back and cars were lined up waiting to see if the deal would fall through or not. She has less than 75,000 original miles on her. She was very neglected and abused but her spirit is strong. Tony and our oldest son are in the process of making her look pretty again.
